👨🍳 Instructions
- Cut beef into 2-3 cm cubes. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat lard over medium-high heat and brown the beef cubes on all sides; remove beef and set aside.
- Add chopped onions to the pot and sauté until translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the pot from heat, stir in the sweet paprika, caraway seeds, and minced garlic quickly to prevent burning.
- Return the beef to the pot, add diced tomato and bell pepper. Pour in the beef broth (or water) until the meat is just covered, season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 60 minutes.
- Add diced potatoes and carrots to the pot and continue to simmer for another 30-40 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and the beef is very soft.
- While the soup simmers, prepare the csipetke (pinched noodles): mix flour with egg and a pinch of salt to form a stiff dough. Pinch off small pieces of dough and drop them into the simmering soup during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh parsley or a dollop of sour cream.
