👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the yellow onion and the beef. Prepare all liquid seasonings (dashi, soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar) by combining them in a small bowl.
  2. In a shallow pan or skillet, add the sliced onions and half of the prepared sauce. Simmer over medium heat until the onions are tender and translucent.
  3. Add the thinly sliced beef to the pan, spreading it evenly over the onions. Pour in the remaining sauce and continue to simmer for 3-5 minutes, or until the beef is cooked through.
  4. Serve the gyudon immediately by spooning a generous amount of the beef and onion mixture over a bowl of hot cooked rice. Garnish with pickled red ginger (benishoga) if desired.
