👨🍳 Instructions
- Soak cracked wheat, pearl barley, and mixed lentils separately in water for at least 4-6 hours or overnight.
- Boil beef with a little ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, salt, and water until tender, then shred the meat and reserve the broth.
- In a large pot, heat oil and sauté sliced onions until golden brown, reserving some for garnish.
- Add the remaining ginger-garlic paste and ground spices (red chili, turmeric, cumin, coriander, garam masala) to the pot with sautéed onions; cook for a few minutes until fragrant.
- Add the soaked and drained wheat, barley, and lentils along with the shredded beef and beef broth; add more water if needed to cover.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until thick and paste-like.
- Once cooked, blend or mash the Halim to achieve a smooth, homogenous consistency.
- Serve hot, garnished with reserved fried onions, fresh ginger julienne, green chilies, a squeeze of lime, and fresh coriander.
