- Cook the kasha: In a medium saucepan, lightly toast the buckwheat groats over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Add 2 cups of vegetable broth or water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the liquid is absorbed and kasha is fluffy.
- Cook the pasta: While the kasha is cooking, boil the bow-tie pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain well and set aside.
- Sauté the onions: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until deeply caramelized and golden brown.
