  1. Drain the firm tofu and slice it into 1/2-inch thick pieces or desired shapes, then arrange them in a single layer on a heatproof plate.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and sugar until well combined, creating the flavorful soy-garlic sauce.
  3. Place the plate of tofu into a steamer basket over simmering water, cover, and steam for 10-12 minutes until the tofu is heated through and tender.
  4. Carefully remove the steamed tofu from the steamer, then pour the prepared soy-garlic sauce evenly over the warm tofu.
  5. Garnish with freshly chopped scallions and serve immediately as a light main course or a flavorful side dish.
