👨🍳 Instructions
- Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples into 1-inch pieces. You can leave the skin on for a chunkier applesauce or for extra fiber, but peeling results in a smoother texture.
- Place the chopped apples in a large saucepan, add water (or apple cider for more flavor) and sugar. Stir in the ground cinnamon.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the apples are very tender.
- Remove from heat and mash the apples with a potato masher for a chunky sauce, or use an immersion blender (or carefully transfer to a regular blender) for a smooth purée. Adjust sweetness to your preference.
- Serve warm or chilled. Apple sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
