🛒 Ingredients
- Pre-cooked white cornmeal (Harina P.A.N.) 100 g · 360 kcal
- Water 185 g · 0 kcal
- White fresh cheese (e.g., Queso Fresco, Mozzarella) 80 g · 200 kcal
👨🍳 Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the pre-cooked white cornmeal, a pinch of salt (2g), and warm water. Knead the mixture until a smooth, soft, and moldable dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions (2 per serving) and form each into a ball. Flatten each ball into a thick disc, about 1 cm (0.4 inches) thick.
- Make a small well in the center of two discs, fill with half of the white fresh cheese, then cover with the remaining two discs, sealing the edges firmly to enclose the cheese.
- Heat a griddle or heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat. Cook the arepas for 7-10 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
- For extra gooey cheese, transfer the cooked arepas to a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 5-7 minutes. Serve immediately.
