👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Rinse the moth dal thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 4-6 hours, or overnight. Drain the water completely before cooking.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker or heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped onion and green chili, sauté until the onion turns translucent and slightly golden. Then add ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute until aromatic.
  4. Stir in chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and the oil starts to separate. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder, cooking for a minute.
  5. Add the drained moth dal, water, and salt. If using a pressure cooker, cook for 3-4 whistles or about 15-20 minutes on medium heat until the dal is tender. If using a pot, cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes.
  6. Once the dal is cooked, stir in garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti, rice, or bread.
