  2. Cook the soaked dal with fresh water and turmeric powder until it is soft and mushy, using a pressure cooker or stovetop.
  3. Add thick coconut milk and green chili to the cooked dal, simmer gently for a few minutes while stirring occasionally; avoid vigorous boiling.
  4. In a separate small pan, heat coconut oil for tempering. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  5. Add sliced shallots, dried red chili, and curry leaves to the tempering pan; sauté until shallots turn golden brown.
  6. Pour the hot tempering over the simmering dal, stir gently, and serve immediately with rice or flatbread.
