🛒 Ingredients
- Masa Harina 60 g · 210 kcal
- Refried Beans (cooked and mashed) 60 g · 80 kcal
- Vegetable oil 5 g · 45 kcal
👨🍳 Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the Masa Harina with approximately 1/2 cup (120ml) of warm water and a pinch of salt; mix well until a soft, pliable dough forms. Knead for 2-3 minutes until smooth, adding more water if needed to reach a play-dough consistency.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each into a ball. Lightly grease your hands with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
- Press each ball of dough into a thick disc using your palms. Create a small well in the center of each disc.
- Fill each well with about 1.5 tablespoons of refried beans. Carefully fold the edges of the dough over the filling to enclose it completely, then gently flatten and reshape into a disc, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat a comal or non-stick griddle over medium heat. Lightly brush the griddle with vegetable oil.
- Place the pupusas on the hot griddle and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly puffed. Serve hot with Curtido (pickled cabbage slaw) and salsa.
