  • Cooked Pinto Beans 110 g · 154 kcal
  • Lard 7 g · 63 kcal
  • Onion 10 g · 4 kcal
  • Garlic 3 g · 5 kcal

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Heat lard in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Stir in the cooked pinto beans and about 1/4 cup of the bean cooking liquid (or water/broth). Season with salt to taste.
  4. Using a potato masher or a large fork, mash the beans directly in the skillet to your desired consistency. For smoother beans, mash more thoroughly; for a chunkier texture, leave some beans whole.
  5. Continue to cook the mashed beans over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until they thicken to your preferred consistency and some moisture has evaporated, about 10-15 minutes.
  6. Serve hot as a side dish, filling for tacos or burritos, or as a dip with tortilla chips.
