👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the urad dal in water for 30 minutes. Drain the dal and set aside.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked dal with 2 cups of fresh water, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 3-4 whistles or until tender.
  3. For the tadka, heat ghee in a small pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  4. Add chopped onion and green chili, sauté until the onion turns golden brown. Then add ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute.
  5. Stir in chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Cook until the tomatoes soften and the oil separates.
  6. Pour the cooked dal into the tadka mixture, mix well, and bring to a simmer for 5-7 minutes to combine the flavors.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
