👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Season the fish fillets with salt, pepper, and lime juice. In a large pot, heat half of the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for another 3-5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the water or fish broth and bring to a simmer. Gently add the seasoned fish fillets to the simmering liquid and cook for 5-7 minutes, until cooked through.
  4. Remove the fish from the pot and set aside to cool slightly. Flake the fish into pieces, removing any bones and skin.
  5. Return the pot with the broth to medium-low heat. Slowly add the cassava flour, whisking constantly to avoid lumps, until the mixture thickens into a smooth porridge.
  6. Stir in the flaked fish and the remaining olive oil. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the Pirão de Peixe hot, garnished with fresh chopped cilantro or parsley.
